Monterey

Monterey is one of my favorite day trips from Stanford.

It is generally less crowded than Santa Cruz and there are plenty of great activities and delicious food.

1 - Old Fisherman’s Wharf. Have a nice walk on the wharf and try some clam chowder along the way.

There are many great seafood options.

I like Domenico’s on the Wharf for their fresh fish and you can enjoy your meal while watching the sea lions in the ocean.

If you go during summer, you will have the chance to see hundred of seals at the beginning of the pier just hanging there.

2 - The center of Monterey is a good place to take a quick walk, but I wouldn’t advise it being the first thing you do in the city.

3 - Del Monte Beach is a really large and beautiful beach.

You can walk for hours without seeing the end of it.

Also, if you keep your eyes on the water, you might see some dolphins and sea lions not far from the shore.

4 - Whale watching.

I highly recommend this – it is an amazing experience.

You can see different kinds of whales depending on the time of the year, but you may also see killer whales, dolphins, sea lions, etc.

This might not be the best activity if you are prone to seasickness, although it could still be possible if you go on a day with calm ocean conditions.

5 - The 45-minute walk from the wharf to Lover’s Point is amazing.

Not only can you enjoy the ocean view, but also the old canneries, art galleries, restaurants, and many other things.

6 - If you like aquariums, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is known as one of the best in the world.
